Living With Asthma?

Children's Health Issues image.

The American Lung Association reports that an astonishing four million children under the age of 18 had an asthma attack in the past 12 months. In fact, this chronic condition accounts for more childhood hospital admissions than any other condition. It’s the most widely reported reason for chronic absenteeism from school.

But is asthma something you and your child "just have to live with?"

Not necessarily. Asthma results from an inflammation of the bronchial air passages, resulting from such things as allergies, respiratory infections, irritants (air pollution, cigarette smoke, strong odors) carried through the air and of course subluxations. Approximately 75 percent of children with asthma also have significant allergies and are strongly genetically predisposed for the disease.

While there is no known cure for asthma, traditional medicine treats it with drugs, including inhaled corticosteroids, allergy injections, bronchodilator inhalers, and by stressing trigger avoidance behaviour.

Several articles that have appeared in Today’s Chiropractic Magazine relate that nerve interference caused by subluxation is often present in children with asthma. Time and again in our practice, we have found that regular chiropractic care diminishes the frequency of the asthma attacks and the severity of the condition.

It is certainly worth it to consider chiropractic as an alternative to the traditional medical approach to childhood asthma, for your child’s sake, given the research that suggests to promising outcomes.

Dr. Brian Asks some important questions of interest to Logan residents - Chiropractor Logan Dr. Brian Asks...

Are chiropractors just concerned with the spine?
Our interest in the spine is because it covers the major communications conduit between your brain and your body. As a Logan chiropractor my job is to locate areas (usually along the spine) that interfere with proper nerve communications to and from your brain. Chiropractic adjustments help restore nervous system integrity. In this way, chiropractic care can affect the function of your entire body.
What's the difference between maintenance, prevention and wellness?
Maintenance chiropractic care is an attempt to keep a dynamic, ever-changing and adapting organism (you) in a static relationship with your environment. Preventive chiropractic care is mostly about early detection. Wellness chiropractic care is an attempt to optimise our health and be all that you were designed to be.
